Chicago00: The 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition

The Chicago 00 Project is an ongoing collaboration between the Chicago History Museum and filmmaker Geoffrey Alan Rhodes to create place-based experiences of the museum’s archive using augmented and virtual reality.  The 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition episode is based around a new web platform that maps a series of 16 virtual reality sites along the original 1893 Midway and White City in Chicago’s Jackson Park area.  Using Google Maps and Street View API’s, the web portal is a way to interactively display the amazing photography of the fair, and connect it with the present day landscape.  A center point is a reconstructed trip on the original Ferris Wheel, now the site of a skating rink in Midway Park, beside the University of Chicago.
