When COVID-19 forced the abrupt and unprecedented closure of The Corning Museum of Glass, the staff immediately jumped into action, creating new programming to keep would-be visitors engaged with the Museum. Among the first new projects to launch was the Connected by Glass livestreamed video series, which featured Museum experts and special guests who share their insights into a range of topics, allowing us to discover all the fascinating and unexpected ways that we are connected by glass.
The live series, which launched in May, focuses on topics including glass used in science and innovation, entertainment, industry, design, and more. During the livestream, viewers can ask speakers questions via comments on YouTube and Facebook. Each episode is uploaded to the Corning Museum of Glass YouTube channel after the live event.
The Connected by Glass series continues in 2021, supplanting an established on-site program. The series now serves as an umbrella for all of the Museum’s curated virtual programming, and is expanding to include Members-exclusive content.
