Cratylus: Crowd-sourced Tagging to Enhance Discoverability (Breakout 1)

Demonstration

Tuesday, April 06, 2021: 12:00pm - 1:30pm - - Demonstration

David Francis, Bowdoin College Museum of Art, USA

The Bowdoin College Museum of Art developed a crowd-sourced tagging system to help us make searchable the aspects or depictions in a work that we may not capture in the cataloging process. The system allows participants to explore the museum collections and apply thematic groups of keywords from a set of controlled vocabularies derived from the Getty Research Institute. The BCMA is collecting the crowd-source tags to both feed back into our system as keywords (reviewed) and as a separate, less moderated, tag-based search interface.
