Designing Digital Learning

Lightning Talk

Friday, April 16, 2021: 12:30pm - 2:00pm - - Lightning Talk

Bridget Hanna, Museums Victoria, Australia

Imagine what you could do in a museum learning space that was truly interoperable! With the opening of Melbourne Museum’s first-of-its-kind Learning Lab, a new digital vision for museums has emerged.

The Learning Lab reimagines learning in museums connecting Museum Victoria’s collections and stories with co-creative opportunities and a pedagogical approach that merges 21st Century Learning with First Peoples’ processes of Deep Listening. In development for 2 years, the Learning Lab space hosts innovative and content rich workshops for all audiences and can be transformed into an exhibition space at the touch of a button.

This talk explores the creative process behind the development of the Learning Lab, working with collaborators across the sector – from teacher focus groups, digital designers, First Peoples advisors and every department available at Museums Victoria. We examine the challenges along the way, including opportunities to manipulate digital technologies to support co-creation as well as producing an immersive digital experience and creating a suite of programs that appeals to all audiences.
